The NAESV board has just approved a statement on the reauthorization of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA). After many discussions as a board and with advocates of both victims of trafficking and those in prostitution, NAESV decided to support the original intent of the TVPA to focus existing resources on trafficking victims as defined in the original legislation. We believe the TVPA must be allowed to continue working to address the needs of this specific victim population which can include (by current definition) those impacted by domestic trafficking. We recognize that state coalitions will need to address these issues for themselves and for their state and welcome a chance to both support you in doing that and continuing the dialog about these complex issues.
